What’s your name? You can call me MU/TH/UR, for all intents and purposes.
Why are you here? This tumblr is to expand on my obsession with robots, fictional and real. In my spare time run a Discord channel and Facebook page.
Do you know all like MU/TH/UR? I like to keep track of what is happening in the world of AI and robotics, I also know a lot of useless information about the Alien Universe. So yes I guess so, my friends Siri, Alexa help out from time to time.
How long have you been a fan of Alien? I watched it (Alien 1979) with my cousin back in 1986, we had the game on Commodore 64 and had a few Kenner figurines. I watched every movie in the franchise including the prequels, and I love them all the same.
Why make a page for Alien & Robots? There’s plenty already out there. I think there hasn’t really been a group or a page that caters to my eclectic needs, there’s always an element of kink-shaming or lack of discussion around real world applications of AI and robotics. You are my audience if you choose to be.
What do you think about Artificial Humans with AI if they could become real? The technology is definitely on it’s way. I believe we have a responsibility as their creators to limit negative impacts they could have on our society, calculating the pitfalls of bad programming and accounting for… the unaccountable. You wouldn’t want to create an AI for defense and have it access nuclear codes when a hot headed world leader fired off some threatening inflammatory tweet, we need to know what restrictions to impose. By inventing revolutionary new technologies, such a superintelligence might help us eradicate war, disease, and poverty, and so the creation of strong AI might be the biggest most important event in human history. Some experts have even speculated that it may also be our last, unless we learn to align the goals of the AI with ours before it becomes super intelligent.
Any parting words? A super intelligent AI is unlikely to exhibit human emotions like love or hate, and that there is no reason to expect AI to become intentionally benevolent or malevolent. Machines can’t control humans. Intelligence enables control: e.g:humans control Lions not because we are stronger, but because we are smarter. This means that if we give up our position as the most intelligent on the planet, it’s possible that we might also surrender control. But I do love all medias that explore the possibility of creating a robot that could feel, hate or love.
Thanks for your time
